Cassiah grew up travelling between the UK, USA and Canada with a mixed Indian and European heritage. Film and theatre were always at the core of Cassiah's life; be it performing in the basement of an Aunt's house, or writing a Jackie Chan inspired spy script at age 9.
Unsure whether she would end up in front or behind the screen/stage, Cassiah went on to study Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of Birmingham where she graduated with first class honours. She fell in love with writing after a summer working in the USA and was hooked.
Cassiah soon got her lucky break, meeting 'Bend It Like Beckham' writer/director Gurinder Chadha OBE on a train from Edinburgh to London. Gurinder offered her a job on the spot, and Cassiah spent a year with Gurinder assisting on her theatre and film projects including 'Bend It Like Beckham The Musical' and 'Viceroy's House'.
Cassiah's debut award nominated play 'Under My Thumb' toured London, Brighton and Edinburgh, eventually completing a five-star run at the Edinburgh Film Festival 2017. She continued to work on a number of commissions whilst pursuing her own directing projects, including her award winning debut short film 'Polly' (2017); her second short 'Woman of the Night' (2018); and her third short 'Kindling' (2019). Her new short 'Catch A Butcher' is in post-production and is supported by the BFI Network.
